So some of you may have already seen this from one of my other posts, but for those who are unfamiliar, allow me to introduce what people wanted to call a musical instrument in the 1700s.

The device is called a Katzenklavier, or translated as a Cat Piano. It was made by a man named Athanasius Kircher. If sources speak the truth, then a working version of this monstrosity was created. The device had cats loaded into these boxes, each lined up according to the vocal pitch of their meow. When the keys are pressed, a lever device does one of two things, either pulls the cats tail or pushes a nail like protrusion into the cat, causing the desired meow. The practical application of such a device is apparently supposed to help cure ADD… Sounds like that’s what caused this thing. And that’s my Trashed Idea for the week.
