Trashed Ideas

I don’t know either

  • Your WTF for the day – Squeaky Pig

Just another cornerstone of our history as a species culminated into a pull toy. If you listen, you can hear it grunt. By the way, this thing is worth about as much as my entire electronic setup, for perspective.

  • Trashed Idea – Harriet the Blogger?

Many of you will know of Harriet the Spy, a book/Nick movie that sprung up and caused a mild roar in the early 90s. Well Disney has seen fit to give it a fresh make-over, by making her a blogger. While this is Disney and my entire website could be dedicated to the FUBARs Disney pulls, this one did stick out to me as just an awful idea.

  • Trashed Idea – Shave a baby!

Can you shave the baby? YOU CAN SHAVE THE BABY! I don’t know which oriental group this is from, but I am impressed that they chose red heads for this experiment. Gingers do have souls, after all.

  • Role Models – School sued for spying through laptops

    Ahem.

The Superintendant of the Lower Merion School District — where parents have initiated a class action suit over the covert use of students’ laptops to surveil them in school and at home — has sent a letter to parents with more information about the spying. The school admits that there was spyware installed on students laptops that allowed for remote, covert activation of their webcams, but maintains that the measure was only to be used in the event of theft of the machine…

So basically, the school offered a laptop initiative. I don’t know if this meant the students bought them or leased, but the problem arose when a teacher supposed confronted a student over misconduct and the student realized the picture that was shown to him was taken from his home. Since the lawsuit has been filed, they have disabled the security feature and are investigating it right now. Full story here.

  • Spy Vs. Pyro – TF2 Cartoon

So I realize many of you aren’t big gamers and therefore would be unfamiliar with the characters in this cartoon. This an online first person shooter called Team Fortress 2 that is class based. Each class had different abilities and perks. Spies can obviously look like other people, carry knives for stabbing people in the back, and overall mischief. Pyros are the flame-wielding beacons of annihilation you generally see in the front lines laying down the law. There are other classes: a scout, demolitions, sniper, heavy arms, soldier, etc. and you will even see some characters from other Valve games like Gordon Freeman. The animation quality pays tribute to classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons while also tracing some influence from Ren & Stimpy and the video games themselves. It’s a bit long but overall enjoyable. Be warned, many animation posts to come in the next week.

  • Pimp That Site – Please Rob Me

Um. I don’t have a picture for it, but this is a scary site for any intense social networkers. If you spend half your time on the phone updating facebook and twitter, then I have to say that you are at risk of being robbed.

Please Rob Me takes twitter posts and searches for keywords and using the information it gathers, it can guess where you are at down to the location and when you left your house. Now it’s not a thing of accuracy, but being able to pick up on someone’s weekly routine would take no more effort than popping onto a single webpage, and that in itself is terrifyingly similar to Orwell’s view of the world.

  • Your WTF for the day – Too Late to Apologize: A Declaration

Since I’ve already made one historical post, why not two? I’ll admit, I was chuckling along through most of this video. I can’t say I expected something like this from the interwebs.

  • Another Runner

As a student of graphic design, I am often fascinated by even the simplest animation if it’s done uniquely. This is a prime example. While the concept is far from original, it’s done with a flair that shows an appreciation for movement and general bad ass-ery.

  • Role Models – James K. Polk Was @#?!ing Awesome

It’s not often that I promote anything that’s actually educational, but this video about James K. Polk was superb. Honestly, if lectures were presented like this in classrooms, I would have loved school. Also, for you trivia people, the guy who produced this is the same person behind Two Gentlemen of Lebowski.
